STORIES FROM A NON-EXISTING TEA-HOUSE, installation with embroidery, cut-out silhouettes from wood and felt, textile 3D structures, 2019, MNAC

The work invites shadows to show -up.

It creates a real space that rather speaks about an imaginary one – one of shadows, symbols and things that should be translated to be understood. I thought that I can live within that imaginary space for a while, like visiting a tea-house telling or listening to stories.

The stories are fragmentary, yet they aim to articulate a whole. They are stories from the West as well as stories from the East.

It has started from a poignant situation lived in the East and which I wanted to present and translate, using the Romanian range of symbols.

It was the story of a simple yellow marigold flower. It is a story about finding power in powerlessness.

A shamanic Tibetan traditional festival that I associated with some of the oldest Romanian winter traditions has provided the narrative framework of the work, that stands within the connection between my personal memory and the collective subconscious. Interdependence and change were also guiding lines in shaping up the work.
