STORY TO SEE A STAR, installation with textile sculptures, textile collages, photography and video, 2019, Mogosoaia Palace; curator: Ana Negoita

This work has had as a starting point the quote from Emerson “ when it is dark enough, you can see the stars”.

I found a real story that for me has been just one possible historical situations that embodied the poetry of Emerson. I constructed a simplified, visual version of the story using textile sculptures and collages as the main medium of expression.

Story: Once upon a time, during the World War II, inside the Ermitage Museum, there was a guided tour of a section of the Painting Department, for the soldiers who helped to take the painted canvases out of their frames, to deposit them into a safe place. Yet, the tour took place after the frames where emptied. Therefore, the power of the story, as it was said by the participants, was strong enough both to evoke the images as well as play with the viewers’ imagination.

The guide, was the gifted storyteller, who, based just on the place of the frames, their labels and his own memory, was able to sustain a vivid experience for the audience. That particular colorful presence was something I intended to present to the public.
